More than 200 years after his
death Mozart's fame is still uncontested. In Vienna, his music
is kept alive by numerous concerts, opera stagings and records.
In 2006, special events will celebrate the 250th anniversary
of Mozart's birth.
Here's a list of some of them:

Vienna:
At his apartment in Domgasse 5 Mozart
lived for some happy and prolific years composing "The
Impesario" and "The Marriage of Figaro" among
other major works. The house is being closed for extensive
renovations and will be reopened on January 27th, 2006 - the
exact date of the anniversary - with a bang.

Mozart
exhibition at Albertina:
The Albertina
will seize the chance to explore Mozart's life, work and myth
in all detail and display exciting valuable works of art as
well as fascinating virtual installations. The exhibition
was design by star architect Zaha Hadid.

Staging
of Mozart's operas and concerts:
Masterpieces like "The Magic Flute", "Don Giovanni",
"Le Nozze di Figaro" and "Così fan tutte"
will be staged at prestigious State
Opera House.
"Così van tutte" can be attended in the original
Italian version at the Volksoper.
"The Magic Flute", "The Marriage of Figaro",
"Così fan tutte" and "Don Giovanni"
can be enjoyed with German language vocals.
Less known "Idomeneo" is featured at Theater an
der Wien. Even the Burgtheater joins the celebrations and
stages "The Abduction from the Seraglio".
There will concerts specialising on Mozart's oeuvre at famous
Musikverein,
Vienna Konzerthaus,
Schoenbrunn Palace Concerts, Palais Auersberg, Vienna
Boy's Choir, Vienna Mozart Orchestra and and and.
Cost-free open-air film
festival in front of Vienna city hall will focus on Mozart
during the summer!
Well known festivals like Klangbogen 2006, Wiener
Festwochen or Osterklang will devote themselves to the
great master!
Even though there will be myriad occasions to enjoy Mozart's
music it is a good idea to get tickets in advance!

Conduct
the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra:
At the 'Haus der Musik' (House of Music) you can try out your
conducting skills!
Thanks to modern technology you can get insights into Mozart's
conducting technique and 'work' on your own. You can also
add sounds to "A Little Night Music" and take home
your remix on CD!
But that's only one attraction in a fascinating museum on
sound and music...

Requiem
autography at the National Library:
The requiem is the last and unfinished masterpiece of Wolfang
Amadeus Mozart. The autograph is one of the most valuable
pieces in the collection of the Austrian National Library.
Also to be seen: first edition of "The Magic Flute"
and of "La Clemenza di Tito" as well as complementary
information and portraits!
